Nicki Minaj has been named Billboard's "Rising Star" for 2011, capping off a year that has seen the hip-hop star top the charts with her massive-selling "Pink Friday" album and, most recently, earn a pair of trophies at the American Music Awards. The Rising Star Award acknowledges Minaj's phenomenal year and will be presented at the Billboard Women in Music Event on Dec. 2 in New York City.

There you have it, the youngest superstar ever chosen as Billboard's Woman of the Year for our Women in Music issue. Taylor Swift has enchanted fans, fellow stars and the music business alike in 2011 and just happens to be on a hot streak of late, with hauls at the CMAs, AMAs and three hot-off-the-presses Grammy nominations. For our pick for Rising Star, we (naturally) went with Taylor's friend, Nicki Minaj. As an MC, she can hold her own with the best of them. As a fashion icon, she has limitless potential. As a pop star, she's just getting warmed up.
